I totally understand the frustration with not knowing what to wear. You stand in front of your closet and you all of a sudden hate every piece of clothing you own and feel like nothing will look good. Never fear; more often then not you have something that will look stunning you just need some extra guidance. AKA me. Be warned, I am not a outfit guru by any means but I know a smidge of info that can hopefully guide you in one way or another.
I gottchu girl. Here we go.
First things first, before we get into the colors, patterns and the more nitty gritty side of what you should wear, let me be clear on one thing. No matter what I say, don’t pick something that you don’t feel BANGING in. If you put something on and say, “Well this is the type of color she said I should wear so I guess I will wear it,” but you don’t feel a whopping 10/10 then take it off and back to the drawing board you go. I want you to feel stunning because if you don’t it will show in your photos. My goal is for your love for eachother and the radiance inside you to shine. And one killer outfit will take care of that second part. Alright, now that is out of the way, here comes some more of the technical stuff. (still fun though).
Color Schemes. The colors you choose for your photos are very important. I always encourage minimal colors. So no neon oranges, neon greens etc. Colors that mesh well together. Colors such as beige, black, deep blues, deep reds, and dusty pinks. These colors also work super well with my particular editing style. Those that edit more highly saturated might encourage super vibrant, bright colors. If that makes sense. These are some examples of colors to start us off. From your pretty pinks to rustic colors; these are a fantastic choice.
Now, when it comes to color coordinating there is this huge misconception that you are your man have to color coordinate right on the dot. Like hello, prom photos. I would highly encourage you don’t match colors exactly. Match colors to not match. And by that I mean, if you wear a rustic yellow dress, he could wear a black T with a jean jacket. Clothes that go together but don’t match perfectly are key. We don’t want a remake of prom. See above; the colors mustard and mahogany (the left photo) go amazing together. Don’t overthink your outfits, but learn to mesh different colors together. Colors that compliment the other.
Just as colors can mesh well together so can patterns! When it comes to patterns I usually push my clients to steer far left away from them. HOWEVER, it depends on the patterns. If you want to wear a polka dot dress then you wear the heck out of that dress but maybe he could wear more of a solid shirt (like seen here, in the above images). Think details. If the polka dots on her dress were huge then it possibly could take some of the attention away from them and more so on the dress. So keep that in mind.
Mixed patterns as well as crazy patterns can be distracting but then again, it boils down to what exactly the pattern is. If we are talking about that hawaiian shirt your uncle Tim wears with the surfboards, palm trees, and hula girls on it, thennnn possibly we can re think that. But seriously, outfits are supposed to empower you and make you feel beautiful.
All of what I am saying are just tips but if you don’t feel like a billion bucks in that dress, skirt, dress, you name it; then you are indeed in the wrong outfit.
Outfits don’t just mean colors though. Think about the session itself. My sessions in particular involve a lot of movement and being interactive with each other. If you are dying to get a shot of you on his shoulders then maybe you should rethink that dress you want to wear or consider doing my package with two outfits. More info on that click here. Think about what you want your session vibe to be. Are you thinking more dressed up, more casual or in between? These are great questions to consider when picking your outfit. When it comes to dresses I recommend something that is flowy; that is if you want that movement in your dress which is always so pretty.
Shoes.
Depending on your session you can most definately go barefoot. I even totally recommend it. I included some images above where we were in the sand and shoes were not necessary. Going barefoot can be super fun and bring a little bit of edge(y), adventurous look to your photos. That’s really all I have to say about shoes. If you want to rock some stiletto’s, do it. If you want to wear those super cute flats cause you hate high heels, do itttt. Also, be mindful on the colors of your shoes. It all depends on what you want to draw attention to. The outfit/shoes/accessories are so important but at the end of the day we want your love for eachother to be the focus, so just keep the outfit choices at bay when it comes to choosing colors/bling etc. The saying, “less is more” is so accurate here.
Quick tip before I keep rambling: Insecurities are a real life thing so don’t ignore them. I have them. Your best friend has them and it’s just the reality. Do you not love the way your arms look? Then maybe wear longer sleeves. Not a big fan of showing a lot of leg? Then possibly wear a longer dress or even some cute jeans. The point is, I want you to feel amazing in your skin. I want you to look at your photos and be over the moon about them. I don’t want your eye to go to that one thing you don’t love about yourself. You know your body so rock it in the outfit you choose. Have a better side? LEMME KNOW CAUSE I DO TO LOL. Okay great, let’s continue.
What else could I talk your ear off about? I think that about covers it. But let’s do a quick recap. Neutrals are your best friend when it comes to outfits, my editing style, and just overall everything about neutrals is just heaven on earth. Think about the type of outfit you want to wear whether that be more dressy or more casual; this is a great start to outfit choosing. You know your body better than anyone else so dress accordingly. What makes you feel like America’s next top model? Is is that one dress thats in your closet and collecting dust because you have no where to wear it to? Then ding, ding wear that! Whatever it is, you are not allowed to walk out of the house until you can look in the mirror and say, “Wow, I’d date me.”
And there you have it. My quick guide and tips on what you should wear to your session. I am so PUMPED and if you are still incredibly lost and need extra, extra guidance please email/text/call me. I am here to help, Let’s go have some fun. See you soon.
